The outdoor gym
Camps provide the rings and pads; the Eastern Seaboard provides everything else — a coastline of roadwork, sand and hills that Bangkok athletes drive hours to borrow.
The classic sessions
- Jomtien sand runs. Low-tide hard sand gives spring; soft sand gives punishment. Sunrise is the serious hour — cool air, empty beach, half the local fight scene padding past.
- Promenade roadwork. The beachfront paths along Jomtien and Pattaya bays handle steady-state kilometres with sea air instead of traffic fumes.
- Hill work. The hinterland toward the reservoir and Buddha Mountain country offers real gradients — sprint repeats and loaded walks that build the legs kicks come from.
- Outdoor strength. Public calisthenics rigs dot the beachfront parks: pull-ups, dips and core circuits with a sea view, free.
- Sea recovery. Easy swims and salt-water soaks on rest days — the oldest recovery protocol in sport, on tap.
Heat rules apply outdoors doubly
- Dawn and dusk sessions; midday sun is for shade and water;
- Carry fluids on anything over 30 minutes; electrolytes on double days;
- Sunscreen is training equipment here — burned shoulders ruin pad rounds.
Slot it into camp life
Camps usually run their own roadwork; the outdoor sessions above are for rest-day movement, extra conditioning blocks, or self-programmed weeks between camps. More on structuring it: the fitness holiday.
