The fitness holiday, done right
The train-by-day, recover-by-sea model is Pattaya's genuine specialty. Done right you fly home fitter, leaner and technically better; done wrong you burn out by Thursday of week one. The difference is structure.
A week that works
| Day | Pattern |
|---|---|
| Mon–Wed | Train (one or two sessions), beach or pool recovery, early nights |
| Thu | Lighter day: one technical session or private, massage, proper rest |
| Fri–Sat | Full training; Saturday fight night as reward and education |
| Sun | Off. Islands, pool, nothing. Non-negotiable at holiday intensity. |
The rules that keep it working
- Sessions before sun. Train first; beach after. Reversing it cooks your legs and your discipline together.
- Sleep is the multiplier. Pattaya offers infinite reasons to stay up; every one of them is cashed out of tomorrow's pads.
- Eat like it's training camp — because it is: rice, grilled meats, seafood, fruit. Athlete food is the default cuisine here if you order it.
- Book recovery deliberately: massage weekly minimum at real volume, stretching daily. Recovery guide.
Common mistakes
- Booking two sessions a day from day one. Heat and humidity tax a body that hasn't adapted yet; build to doubles, don't start there.
- Treating rest days as training days in disguise. A “light swim and a long walk” rest day is still a rest day only if it's actually restful — know the difference.
- Skipping meals to fit in more beach time. Training at volume on an empty tank shows up as flat pad rounds and slow recovery within days. More on eating well while training: nutrition.
- Over-scheduling the whole trip. Leave slack for a spontaneous rest day, an extra massage, or one of the day trips around the area — the holiday needs room to breathe as much as the training block does.
Scaling it
One week: one session a day, keep it technical, enjoy the coast. Two to four weeks: build to doubles by week two, add privates for the technique jump. Months: you're not on holiday anymore — you're in camp, and the camp-life guide applies.
Train smart. Combat sports carry inherent risk. Guidance here is general — your coach, your doctor and your own body outrank any website. Gym details, prices and schedules change; verify directly with any gym before travelling.
