Recovery: the coast's home advantage

Pattaya's greatest training asset isn't a gym — it's how easy the recovering is. Sea, massage, fruit and horizontal time are all on tap. Athletes who use them finish their month strong; those who skip them finish week two limping.

The pillars

Active vs passive recovery

Not all rest looks the same. Active recovery — an easy swim, a slow walk, light mobility work — keeps blood moving through tired muscles without adding load, and tends to suit the day after a hard session better than total inactivity. Passive recovery — sleep, massage, simply lying down — is what the body needs after a genuinely heavy week or before it starts sending clearer warning signs. Most training trips need both in rotation; leaning entirely on one usually means either staying sore longer than necessary or under-recovering without noticing.

Nutrition does more of the recovery work than most visitors expect — see our eating and nutrition page — and knowing which aches are normal training soreness versus something that needs attention is covered on our safety and injury prevention page.

Skin, shins and small repairs

Read the gauges

Heavy legs that stay heavy, rising resting heart rate, falling mood and crumbling technique mean the recovery side is losing. The fix is a genuine off day — pool, islands, massage, zero pads. The camp will be there tomorrow; that's why you came for weeks.

Train smart. Combat sports carry inherent risk. Guidance here is general — your coach, your doctor and your own body outrank any website. Gym details, prices and schedules change; verify directly with any gym before travelling.
