Women's and kids' training
Muay Thai's audience on the coast is far broader than the sport's old image suggests. Women make up a large and growing share of visiting students, and Thai kids' training is a normal, longstanding part of gym culture rather than a novelty add-on.
Women training on the coast
Most camps run mixed classes as standard, and many also offer women-specific sessions or women's-only time slots alongside them — worth asking about directly if that's your preference, since availability varies camp to camp. Coaching quality and intensity scale to the individual regardless of gender; the clinch culture described on our etiquette page applies the same way to everyone in the room. Solo female travellers are a normal, well-established part of the camp population here, and the structured, early-morning-to-evening rhythm of camp life (see a typical training day) suits solo travel better than most other holiday styles.
Thai kids' training
Junior training is a deep-rooted part of Thai Muay Thai culture, not something imported for tourists — Thai children training and, in many cases, competing from a young age under their own coaches is part of how the sport has always developed talent. Visiting a camp with an active kids' programme, you'll likely see young Thai students training alongside adult classes or in their own sessions, sometimes with real skill well beyond their years. It's one of the more striking things newcomers notice about gym life here, and it's worth watching respectfully rather than treating as a photo opportunity.
Bringing your own children
Some destination camps run junior programmes open to visiting families, typically with age-appropriate, lower-contact classes separate from adult training; others focus purely on adult students. If training as a family matters to your trip, confirm a camp's junior programme, age minimums and supervision directly before booking — provision varies too much to generalise. Family-friendly accommodation and the beach-and-pool rhythm described on our fitness holiday page make the wider trip easy to structure around one parent training while the rest of the family is nearby.
